Portable Database With Power Windows

Command Your Resources From Two Windows!

__________________________________________

The information age is upon us. When we first glady opened our hard drives to the magic of file transfer protocols and all the information that would follow did we know the extent of it?  Do we even know the extent of it today?  I don’t know …and that’s okay. :-)

I do know that I have been overwhelmed with resources of all topics and types.  When I couldn’t find what I knew I already had I decided it was time to bring some law and order to my computer and my business.

Fear Not, Your Own Database With Power Windows Is Here!

I made the 12 minute video above to demonstrate the power and simplicity of a 2 folder database system.  When I took the time to create a logical structure for my new database I was rewarded with 10 fold in speed and efficiency.

I’m well aware of the many database software programs already available.  That’s why I made my own.  Creating and maintaining a software database program is a major time suck.  If you’re already using database software that’s great.  My point is that some programs are way too sophisticated for the needs of most internet apprentices.

On the other hand they’re sophisticated programs that are a perfect fit for online marketing.  Camtasia, Photoshop, PowerPoint, and Word are money makers’ and product creators‘ tools of the trade.  They take time to learn but they’re rewarding in return.  I also recommend Excel.  It’s a spreadsheet and database program combined.

If you’re using a free or paid database and you’ve already taken the time to create and name all of your FIELDS and FIELD TYPES then you’ve essentially created the database yourself.  The software itself will index every record entry, query information, and produce reports.  That’s what an already flourishing business may need in fact.  Does a newbie or twobie need that much computing power?  One day, perhaps.

In the meantime we need to access, organize and activate the resources that we already have on board.  We need to create our own portable infological database with power windows.  That’s what my little video is about.  I hope it fits.

  3. Hi Steve,

Wow are you organised! :D I thought I was organised. :P

I really like the 2 different folder concepts. I recently lost a hard drive and had to re install everything plus I lost 4 months of work. I really like the fact that you have set up the system so you are backing up only once. An excellent way of making sure that you don’t have doubled up content on our hard drives.

Really great idea! I will definitely be using this concept. What video program have you used to create your video? I like the intro music! :)

Hope everything is going well. See you back here soon!

    Jacinta :D

Hi Jacinta, Thank you so much! I’m so glad you’ve found it helpful. :-) I used Camtasia for the screen capture recording and I also used Powerpoint to make the opening slides with the animated text. I created the slide template in Photoshop. The audio clips are freeware from Microsoft’s own website.
Many of the clips are offered in 30, 60, and 120 second durations. See you soon.

  5. Brilliant Steve! Thanks for this. I can’t wait to get on my computer and clear the desktop. :-) Also, your system makes backing up much easier…..Does it make the computer faster, if you take everything off the desktop? John

Hi John, Thank you and you’re so very welcome. Yes indeed, a clear desktop refreshes in seconds or less but if there are any folders or files on the desktop then Windows has to refresh each one of those as well every time you return to your desktop.

  7. Hi Steve, I have enjoyed watching your video on creating a data base folder system. This really is something I have to do. If you saw my desktop it would make you cry!

I also like the look of your blog.

    Regards, Ray

Thanks Ray. My desktop gets cluttered too. That’s when the ‘footlocker’ folder comes in handy. Send me a screen shot of yours, I promise not to cry, LOL

  9. thanks for this video steve
I would love to be able to be as organized
    to this standard .
As a matter of fact this is a course on its own
not saying I will be able to follow it to the letter .
but I am definitely going to try and implement some of the ideas

Hi Mick, your welcome! The portable database is a work in progress. I’m making adjustments to things as I go, trying to distill the best products and training into an accessible and marketable format. I’ll be posting an update soon.

  11. Hi Steve
Wow, you are organised-very impressive! I can’t see my desktop for folders, so I think I need your system.
    Best wishes
    Mike

Hey Mike, Thanks for saying that. I’d like to hear what you’re up to. Please feel free to drop a line to admin@stevedeerfield.com if you’d like to. Setbacks, I’ve had many to and from what I hear we’re not alone in that respect. We can always build on our momentum and experience and draw strength from every day’s accomplishments no matter how small. Steve D.
